Welcome to Modes of Discourse!

The purpose of this wiki is to catalog all of the ways in which people engage in organized communication with each other, how those ways work, their similarities, and their differences.

Here you might find information about a specific medium: a site such as Facebook or Twitter, app such as Tinder or Vero, protocol such as IRC or email, or service. You might also be interested in aspects of organized communication that are shared by or unique to different media like image posts, nested replies, following, or moderation.

This wiki is meant to address at least the following use cases:

  • Learn about how a specific social network platform functions
  • Find new services that function similarly to one you are already familiar with
  • Find services that do or do not implement a specific aspect.
  • Learn about aspects of organized communication that you have never been exposed to.
